STRIX UAV

A3R - Advanced Research has developed the Flight Control Segment and the Ground Control Segment for the STRIX UAV, produced by the Alpi Aviation S.r.l..

 

The STRIX system is an Electrical Manoeuvre Class UAS Unit. It can be launched by hand or catapult and has been specifically designed for Manoeuvres and Special Operation support. The STRIX UAS is carried using a compact light weight back pack, which includes the minimal operable configuration. STRIX is fully autonomous and can be used as a critical node in a fully integrated Networked surveillance system. STRIX flies autonomously toward designated waypoint and controlled on a hand ground station through the free-controlled flight or the target mode flight.

The system has a really simple ground logistic and could be completely operated by a single operator.

The STRIX is specifically designed to support tactical units with short range "over the hill" and "around the corner" intelligence and assist in force protection in urban operations in both the daylight and night performances. It has proven to be simply operable under difficult weather conditions, uncomfortable landing environment and with really short training. Moreover the system has an integrated POD that is architecturally.

For the Flight Segment A3R - Advanced Research, in collaboration with Alpi Aviation S.r.l., has provided the following components:

  • Fligth autopilot, with an embedded GPS system, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), static and dynamic pressure sensors.
  • On Board Control Software.
  • Data (telemetry) and video link.
  • Payload calibration.

For the Ground Segment A3R - Advanced Research, in collaboration with Alpi Aviation S.r.l., has provided the following components:

  • Core UAV Control Station (CUCS) , for the mission planning, real time video, flight control, and mission debreafing..
  • Control Data Terminal (CDT).
  • Video Data Terminal (VDT).
  • Beacon system, to improve landing functionalities.

SIXTON UAV

A3R - Advanced Research has developed the Flight Control Segment and the Ground Control Segment for the SIXTON UAV, produced by the Alpi Aviation S.r.l.

 

The SIXTON  system is an Electrical Maneuvers Class VTOL UAS Unit. It can automatically take-off and land and has been specifically designed for Maneuvers and Special Operation support. SIXTON  is fully autonomous and can be used as a critical node in a fully integrated Networked surveillance system. SIXTON  flies autonomously toward designated waypoint and controlled on a hand ground station through the free-controlled flight or the target mode flight.

 

From the external viewpoint, the system belongs to the “MICRO” remotely piloted aircraft class, namely those with a maximum takeoff weight of  MTOW < 2 kg. Being a VTOL vehicle (Vertical Take-Off and Landing), it is capable to perform fully autonomous take-off and landing procedures, under the supervision of an human operator who controls the overall vehicle status.

The SIXTON system, moreover, is completely transportable and can be operated by a single operator due to the fact that it fits into two passably sized backpacks and has a simple management logistic. The system’s aircraft/s can be directly assembled in the operating area in less than 5 minutes and have a mission endurance of 30 minutes each.
The aircraft, equipped with on board avionics, is controlled by a ground station using a remote control unit which emits flight control signals and records video and telemetry data transmitted by the aircraft to the
ground station.
Through the ground remote control station flight missions can be planned and modified. Moreover, it also controls data acquisition and interaction with the payload by directing its movements, during daytime and nighttime, since the system can also be equipped with a nighttime payload which permits night vision through an IR video camera.

Everything necessary for minimum system operability (one aircraft with payload, and the ground station) can be transported in two dedicated backpacks which neatly house all system components.

SIXTON is provided of an external unit (RVD - Remote Visualisation Devide) to permit to a secondary operator payload control and video operations. Its main features are:
