A3R - Advanced Research has developed Ground Software to provide planning, simulation, flight management and mission analysis functionalities for UAS.

YASIM

YASIM Flight Simulator is a 3D simulation environment made to support the mission planning phase for an UAS system and the training course of the human operators. It is thought and built to perform a detailed 3D view of the mission scenario with a complete description of the terrain elevations.

In the view of the mission training,YASIM Flight Simulator can be used to simulate the overall mission, moving the virtual camera as it was the real on-vehicle POD.

YASIM Flight Simulator consists of two main components, especially intended to facilitate planning and management of the vehicle:

  • Back-end simulator, which represents the whole UAS system. It is made of:
    • 6DOF vehicle dynamics
    • Sensors emulation
    • Vehicle Data terminal emulation
    • Real embedded GNC C code
    • Network communication protocol over UDP
  • Front-end visualiser, which represents the overall mission scenario. It is made of:
    • OpenGL 3D tiles rendering
    • Real terrain elevation data
    • Real time data fetching over remote server
    • HUD visualization
    • POD view in night or day mode
    • Meteo Panel

The Graphical User Interface (GUI) is flexible and extendable, based on movable widgets to give to the operator the freedom to customize the view.

YACS

YACS is the next generation Core UAV Control Station (CUCS) software tool, designed to improve the in-flight operations and to perform a better planning. It allow to have a complete control of an unmanned vehicle in all of its flight phases, from planning to landing.

YACS extend the functionalities of the U-SEE CUCS, giving to the human operator a better mission and vehicle control, by means of a much more powerfull back-end implementation and new GUI layout, expecially designed to control in real-time every critical information about the vehicle.

YACS Software suite from A3R - Advanced Research consists of five main components, all intended to facilitate planning and management of a compatible UAV system.

With this unique solution, the human operator can easily design and control the main aspects of a vehicle mission, in terms of:

  • Mission Planning, to define the flight mission, setting the Home Point, the Landing Point, and the Mission Objects Points (MO) (Fly-by or Loiter) by means of the definition of the point coordinates, and the needed flight references (cruise speed, path direction and versus, distance, vehicle pitch angle). By means of the embedded DEM model, it is possible to plan the desired mission acting directly on the AGL measure and to eventually take in account terrain contraints.
  • Flight management, to lead the fligh in all of this phases using a dedicated Control Keyboard, having the real time vehicle status in terms of telemetry, sensors, and failure detection alerts.
  • Real Time Payload Control, using the touch screen or the mouse functionality to perform free mode or automatic target tracking.
  • Mission Debreafing and Analysis, to replay a saved mission as it was, and to immediatly analyse the flight data with 2D plots.
  • Mission Rehearsal, to permit to the pilot to simulate a planned mission, before taking off and start it on the field. By means of this functionality it is possible to verify the flight trajectories, and all the mission contraints and its target POI.

The improved Graphical User Interface (GUI) is flexible and extendable, thought as it was a normal desktop, were the widgets can be moved, hide and resized to give to the operator the freedom to customize the view: all displays can be positioned individually, docked or re-positioned also across multiple monitors.

The system is not limited to only one vehicle at a time but can receive data from multiple vehicles in parallel thereby enabling it to combine data from several sources.

Although the current version is designed around the UAS communication protocol defined by A3R - Advanced Research for its family of UAS, a different module can be implemented to support the STANAG 4586 communication standard.

The STANAG (STANdardization AGreement) 4586 is a specification which will allow members of the NATO alliance to share information obtained by their Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs). The STANAG 4586, entitled "Standard Interfaces of the Unmanned Control System (UCS) for NATO UAV Interoperability", is still within the ratification process.

The system has a really simple ground logistic and could be completely operated by a single operator, or it can be asily connected to A3R Remote Visualisation Device to permit to a secondary operator payload control and video operation.

  • Capability to control up to 3 UAVs simultanously and a beacon for landing.
  • Desktop GUI, flexible and extendable, based on movable widgets.

  • Multi layer map image tiles management.
  • Import of most of the image map files (GEOTIFF, BSB, JPEG2000, etc..) from local or remote server.
  • World database of elevation data embedded.
  • On Map terrain elevation by means of DTED data.
  • Import of standard elevation data (HGT, DTED, etc.. ) from local or remote server.
  • On Map flight support operation as: flight time, time to waypoint, distance to waypoint, mission extimated duration and overall route length.
  • Flight Mode Selection between Waypoint, Loiter, Go to Landing, Autolanding and Fly by Wire.
  • Joystick Input Control.

  • Vehicle Status Alert Panel with Alarm Text display. Two different alert levels: Master Warnings (red) for critical events, Simple Warnings (orange) for non-critical events.

U-SEE

U-SEE Core UAV Control Station (CUCS) is a software tool part of a general Ground Control Station (GCS) which also has the ability to control UGVs and UUVs. It is a powerfull suite thought and built to have a complete control of an unmanned vehicle in all of its flight phases, from planning to landing. The U-SEE Software suite from A3R - Advanced Research consists of four main components, all intended to facilitate planning and management of a compatible UAV system.

With this unique solution, the human operator can easily design and control the main aspects of a vehicle mission, in terms of:

KITEPLAN

KITEPLAN Flight Control Unit (FCU) is a software tool part of a specialized Ground Control Station (GCS) made to control a particular family of UAS that use the parachute as flying system, called Unmanned Parachute System (UPS) . It is thought and built to perform a detailed plan of the flight mission and have a complete view of the UPS in all of its flight phases. The KITEPLAN Software suite from A3R - Advanced Research consists of three main components, especially intended to facilitate planning and management of the vehicle:

  • Mission Planning, to define the flight mission, setting the Target Point, and the Dispatch Point by means of the definition of the point coordinates, the desired cruise speed, direction and versus, and the distance radius. radius. A wind matrix can also be set in terms of velocities and altitude of the wind profile.
  • Flight management, to start the vehicle drop or set it in Flight Director mode, using a dedicated Control Keyboard, having the real time vehicle status in terms of telemetry and sensors data.
  • Mission Debreafing, to replay a saved mission as it was, and to immediatly analyse the flight data with 2D plots
